After coming back
from Kauai we decided to host a last minute potluck BBQ before Alana’s friend Brenda
went back to Canada for 3 weeks to visit family. Tyler had a great time playing
with his friends and Alana and Bill had a great time hanging out with their
friends.

would be fun to pile all of his toys into the middle of the room. |
Bill’s brother Leonard was in the States for his bi-annual visit from
Scotland. He and his daughter Heather stopped by for a quick overnight visit on
their way up to Oregon to visit Bill’s sisters. Tyler had a great time with his
Uncle and cousin here and was sad to see them go the next day.
Bill had his annual business trip to Detroit the week of August 16 so Alana
and Tyler headed up to her parents to visit. They spoiled him yet again with
another big toy. This time it was a huge remote control car race track. Tyler
wore out the batteries on it before the week was over.
Monday the 17th we checked out
Gilroy Gardens theme park. Tyler refused to go on the rides by himself, but was
more than happy to go on any of the rides that one of us could on with him.
Those that he did ride he had to do two or three times. He had lots of fun and
even got to get soaked down to his underwear running through one of the water
play areas.
While in the Bay Area Alana also got to visit with old friends, one
which she hadn’t seen in 10 years! She unfortunately forgot to take pictures while
she was out the first night, but got a couple in with her other friends the
second night.

After being away for a week on his business trip Bill took the following Monday and Tuesday off. We decided to spend the day up in San Luis Obispo to check out the SLO Children’s Museum. Tyler had a blast there. He dug for sabretooth cat bones, created some crazy pictures on the Playmotion wall, enclosed himself in a giant bubble and checked out Zoomtown. Afterwards we had lunch at the Splash Café in SLO where we enjoyed some VERY delicious clam chowder, fried oysters and fish tacos.
After lunch we made the short drive to Avila Valley Barn where we checked out the produce while Tyler got to feed the animals. Bill and Tyler also took a break to grab some ice cream there. Alana was just too full from lunch to even think about ice cream. She was just thankful that the roasted corn stand wasn’t open that day. Otherwise she might have really overdone it!
We then got back in the car and drove a little more to the end of Port San Luis in order to pick up some seafood for dinner that night. Alana was surprised and happy that they actually had live Dungeness crab. We picked up 2 and a couple pounds of shrimp for 2 nights dinners. We were in seafood heaven for the next 2 days!

The last week before school started Alana and Tyler kept busy with a swim playdate and a beach playdate which was perfect since the Valley was experiencing some unusual triple digit temperatures. The beach trip to Gaviota State Beach was a lot of fun. Tyler got to play in the sand and surf with a bunch of friends and Mommy got to sit back and relax with the other Mommys. Tyler was so excited about the whole thing he screamed at the top of his lungs the whole time he played in the waves. You would have thought he had never seen waves before. He and his friend Jessica had fun trying to out scream each other.
